Plans have surfaced for a new mixed-use community just north of the City of Toronto in Markham, to replace the existing Shoppes on Steeles shopping centre.

Located on the north side of Steeles Avenue between Don Mills Road and Highway 404, the site at 2900 Steeles Avenue East is being reimagined as a mix of mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings, along with retail and public spaces.

Earlier redevelopment plans for the property date back to 2007, with the latest proposal from Minett Capital, Streamliner Properties, and Kerbel Group, calling for up to 13 residential towers between 8 and 59 storeys. A 5,480m² public park space is also planned as part of the development.

Designed by Arcadis, the project is planned to be constructed in phases, beginning with Phase 1 on the western portion of the site. A total of 5,049 residential units are proposed across all three phases.

This proposal joins a growing number of redevelopments proposed in and surrounding existing shopping centres in the Greater Toronto Area.
