Northwest Development Corporation and Alignvest Student Housing have proposed a 60-storey mixed-use tower at 149 College Street. Located near Queen’s Park station and south of the University of Toronto’s St. George campus, the development would address the growing need for student housing in Toronto.

Designed by Sweeny & Co Architects, the tower is proposed at a height of 205 metres, and would include a total of 705 units, with 480 private student residences occupying the lower 41 floors and 225 market-rate rental and condo units on the upper 19 floors.

The project would also integrate much of the historic Stewart Building, a six-storey structure designed by E.J. Lennox, into the tower’s 9-storey podium, and would contain 6,000 square meters of institutional space.

149 College Street is one of several new skyscrapers proposed surrounding the University and College intersection, including 700 University Avenue, a 57-storey mixed-use tower located immediately to the east.
